Colson on Forgiveness

This Sunday we'll be discussing forgiveness and how true gospel-believing followers of Christ ought to be persons characterized by forgiveness.  Since we have been forgiven much, we ought to forgive much.  Ironically, this week Charles Colson has written an interesting article at his Breakpoint website regarding how forgiveness has come center stage in our culture in light of the recent wrong call in a game that robbed one major league baseball player of a perfect game.

Colson concludes:

The Christian message summed up in the words “forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us,” provided a revolutionary new basis for human relationships. And it has the power to transform lives—both of victims and offenders—as I’ve witnessed over and over in 30 years of prison ministry. It has the power to heal nations, as the world witnessed in the aftermath of the genocide in Rwanda.

What happened after that baseball game was more beautiful than Galarraga’s pitching. Especially for a postmodern culture that rejects the faith that gave meaning to the words “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you.”

And that’s one call I’m sure of.

Colson - Perfect Sportsmanship 

Something UL, WKU, and UK Fans Can Be Excited About

I found out today that a UK, UL, and WKU basketball player will be among 11 players who will be joining a team in May and playing for over 2 weeks in China.  The local players are Petyon Siva (UL), Jon Hood and Josh Harrelson (UK, and Steffphon Pettigrew (WKU).  Why is this such a big deal?


The trip is one of several sponsored and organized by Sports Reach, a Kentucky-based Christian sports ministry that uses athletics as a platform to share Christ throughout the world.

You know what this means.  Dare I say it . . . I will be rooting for this team including those who represent the University of Kentucky!  I think this is the final sign of the Apocalypse.

I am very excited to see high profile college players like these representing Christ internationally.  Let us pray for these players that they are well received, do not get injured, and are able to share the gospel with a country that is hostile to it.  But with any evangelistic trip like this, we must pray that their experiences in missions over there continue over here as these players will be major forces in the coming years of college basketball.  In a sport where players care more about future dollar signs, this story is a pleasant and well received suprise.

U of L Finally Gets One

Finally, the University of Louisville gets one over the University of Kentucky. U of L has lost in football, basketball, and in the first game in baseball.  But 1 out of 4 isn't bad I guess.  Last night, the U of L baseball team beat UK  in their second meeting of the year in a thrilling 10-9 finale.

College Basketball 2009-2010 Underway

I just couldn't resist. Go Cards! After yet another disappointing season on the football field, the start of basketball season is a breath of fresh air. Be sure to watch the end of the video, especially if your a Kentucky fan! :o)

Billy Clyde is Out!

It is days like this that I am grateful to be a Louisville fan . . . until football season :o) I'm sure everyone knows that Billy Gillispie has been fired as UK head coach. Whose next?

In other news, Louisville plays tonight in the Sweet 16 against the Arizona Wildcats (remember 1998 UK fans?). And since UK fans don't have anything to do, you can watch your former coach.

I just had too! :o)

I had a great time watching the game last Sunday. But I am certainly glad that Louisville one. That has to be one of the greatest games I've seen in a while. And for your viewing pleaseure is the Paul Rogers calling the game winning shot:

UL vs. UK Game This Weekend!

Just wanted to remind everyone that the youth will be watching the University of Louisville vs. the University of Kentucky this Sunday. We will meet for lunch right after church. The game starts at 3:30 central.

We are also having a contest to see who can dress the best. So come and support your favorite team. By the way, if you wear U of L gear, you get extra points. Just Kidding!
